On October 20th 2002 the Vasculitis-Support-group Munich held their

"1st Day for Vaskulitis-Patients"

by Hansjörg Hubrich

The Bad Bramstedt support-group received an invitation to participate in the "1st Day for Vasculitis-Patients" held by the Munich support-group. I personally was very eager to see how the Munich support-group would structure their event. I was to be surprised in the most positive way.

The Munich support-group was introduced in Wolfgang Kurz's welcome-speech at nine o'clock . He stated how happy and content this group was with the acchievements it had made, and how lucky the group was to be so closely connected to the Bogenhausen-hospital in Munich. One could feel in this hospital that vasculitis-patients are warmly welcomed and taken care of in the most friendly way by Dr. Michael Mogk and his team.

Dr. Mogk gave a highly interesting lecture on all aspects of vasculitides. It was followed by a coffee-break with a light snack.

We were asked back to listen to the next lecture held by Dr. M.Stefanidon from the Nephrological department who reported on "Vasculitis with renal involvement". The topic was renal diagnostics, a highly complicated matter. Dr. Stefanidon was able to explain, in a very sensitive way, the problems which may occur during examinations.

Lunch was served in the hospital-canteen. This added another face to the visitor's impression of the lavishly-planned hospital and it was another opportunity of exchanging thoughts and views with other patients.

The afternoon-lectures started with reports by patients or caregivers and their experiences with vasculitis.

Afterwards Dr. M Weissmüller who is a pulmologist at the Bogenhausen-hospital in Munich talked about "vasculitis and lung-involvement". Plenty of pictures gave additional information.

Most of us were glad to get a break with coffee and a little rest after such a lot of information.

"Vascular diagnostics in vasculitis" was the topic of the following lecture. Dr. F. Lößer from the angiological department reported in a relaxed but nevertheless serious way on this vast field of activities, supported by a lot of explainatory pictures. A lot of questions, all of which were answered to the inquirer's satisfaction, followed this part, which ended at 6 p.m.

Mr. Kurz finished the event thanking guests and lecturers alike. He mentioned the long way of the Bad Bramstedt delegates down South to this special event and expressed his joy about our taking part.
